South Korea Assists Tajikistan in Developing a Feasibility Study for Railway Construction to Afghanistan
Tajikistan’s Minister of Transport, Azim Ibrohim, held a meeting with South Korean Ambassador Jeong Seong Shik and the Director of the KOICA (Korea International Cooperation Agency) Office in Tajikistan, Kang Seung Hong.
During the meeting, the parties agreed that upon the completion of the feasibility study for the construction of the “Jaloliddin Balkhi – Nizhniy Pyandzh” railway segment, Tajikistan and South Korea would proceed with the development of a feasibility study for the construction of a metro system in Dushanbe.
The Government of Tajikistan considers the 51-kilometer “Jaloliddin Balkhi – Nizhniy Pyandzh” railway a vital regional infrastructure project.
Details regarding the timeline and cost of implementation have not been disclosed. The start date, funding sources, and other specifics of the railway project remain unknown.
In 2024, Tajikistan and South Korea completed two major logistics-related initiatives:
The first phase of a feasibility study for building a metro system in Dushanbe
The development of a national logistics system enhancement project in Tajikistan
It is worth noting that on November 28, 2024, KOICA specialists had already engaged in discussions with Tajik officials on the “Jaloliddin Balkhi – Nizhniy Pyandzh” railway project and conducted an on-site inspection of the proposed construction area.
