Ashgabat hosted the 11th meeting of the High-Level Working Group on Caspian Sea Issues, organized by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan. The session brought together delegations from all five Caspian littoral states—Turkmenistan, Azerbaijan, Iran, Kazakhstan, and Russia.
The central item on the agenda was a proposal to establish a dedicated working group to address the problem of the Caspian Sea’s shallowing. The initiative is being considered amid growing concern over the environmental consequences of the falling water level in the world’s largest enclosed body of water.
